GOLD FALLS INTO SEA.
MISHAP AT CHERBOURG. SALVAGE WORK DIFFICULT. PARIS. Feb. 23. A mishap, which occurred at Cherbourg clocks, is likely to V>c a very expensive one. When 426 boxes of gold from New York were being unloaded from (he Berengaria a chain crane broke and 10 boxes fell on (lie quay and burst open. The contents of six boxes, valued at £IOO,OOO, fell into the water. Divers were summoned, but salvage work will bo very difficult as ingots weighing 501b each arc buried deep in mud.
