NOTES ON THE RACING.

. MIA STELLA WINS HURDLES. . BRONZE TRAY SCORES AGAIN. LADY MUSK'S MILD SURPRISE. : BY ARCHER. ; Only five started in the Ohinewai Handi- • rap, and Uluniinelh whs favourite, with Chateau und Valpai both as well : supported. A good start saw Chateau blicw out first, to lead for about two and a-half 1 furlongs from Illuminelli, when he cave way ' to Book Law, Running into the straight Rook Law held just a 'slight advantage from Chateau and Vnlpai. with Illuminelli next and Reclaimer tailed o(T. A furlong from the post Bonk Law. Chateau and Valpai were almost on terms, and Valpai did best in the hist 50 yarda to win by half a length from Chateau who defeated Book Law liy a length. Uluniinelh was a moderate fourth and Reclaimer was last. With a Sib. apprentice allowance Vailpui had a. good pull in the weights, and he just, pulled throiign from Chateau, who weakened in thi. last 50 yards. Book Law made an improved showing, but Illuminelli failed to reproduce her first day's form. Another field of five lined up for the Raglan Hurdles, Wiltshire carrying £OS more than Carson, with Mia Stella a good third fancy. Arcade led for ,i tew furlongs, when Mia Stella assumed Command to lead past ' llie stands from Arcade, who was several lengths clear ol Cargen and Wiltshire, ! Mangani having fallen at the second fence. Seven furlongs from home Cargen made a | forward move and he was up in the lead with Mia Stella, at the top, where they were clear of Arcade and Wiltshire. So they raced into the straight, and Mia Stella and Cargen were together at tlif last fence, the inside panel ot which was down. Mia Stella and Careen both went, through the gap and when they commenced the run home Cargen held just a slight advantage. However, H. Turner, on Mia Stella, outride J. Smith, and Mia Stella came again to beat Cargen l>y a neck Wiltshire was three lengths away, third, and Arcade was last. Smith did not handle Cargen particularly well at the finish, and his mount should have won. Mia Stella confirmed her first day's form and battled on very gamely at the finish. Wiltshire failed to show any particular dash, and was never really dangerous. The race was run in fast time, and the early speed seemed to have him in trouble, Ys he could make no impression in the final stages. An Exciting Finish. An exciting finish in the To Rore Hack Handicap saw the favourite, Glenrata, just get home from Ruby Dawn and Teels, who were well supported also. Free Air was badly left, and Searcher was first away, to carry on the early running from Teels, Welcome Boy, Homelight, Glenrata and Kuby Dawn. Searcher drew out at the top and he turned into the straight jTtst clear of Teels. who was closely pursued by Ruby Dawn and Glenrata. Searcher was fighting on well under the whip inside the distance, but he tired in the last 50 yards, when Teels, Ruby Dawn anci Glenrata came on the outside practically together. Glenrata did best at the end to v,-in by a head from Ruby Dawn, who 1 eat Teels by n similar margin Searcher was fourth, followed by Welcome Boy and Homelight. Theie was little between the placed horses over the last furlong, and Glenrata stayed on just a little too well for Ruby Dawn and Teels. Rubv Dawn's effort was one of her best, and 'lYe's disphlyed improvement only to be narrowly heaten at the end. Searcher was made a lot of use of and did not lose the lead until about 50 yards from the post. The scratching of Paganelli. Royal Artist and Maori Boy reduced the field for the Te Rapa Handicap to five. Speedmint was backed down to very short price, and she justified the confidence reposed in her by scoring very easily. Speedmint moved first to give way to Limeen along the bark, where Flying Prince was closest of the , others. Limeen just led Speedmint and Flying Prince at the top. with Baroscope find Flying Prinze gome lengths back. So they raced into the straight, and Speedmint went on strongly to score by a length from Limeen. Baroscope was two and a-half lengths away third, and Flying Prince was fourth, with Mosque, some lengths back last. Speedmint was travelling Well behind Limeen all tho way to the straight, and she then went on to \vjn decisively with her rider sitting still. Limeen made an improved showing and Baroscope finished fairly well, without ever looking dangerous. Tea Trader's Easy Win. Ten Trader was a hot favourite for the Eureka Handicap, and he proved himself a class above tho others by leading from end to end to score very easily with his 0.9. Tea Trader went out fast and he soon had the field strung out to lead info the straight three lengths clear of Jonathan, who was clear of Te Waiou and Gigantic. Nothing had a chance with Tea Trader ut the finish anc( lie won by a length and a-half from Jonathan, who defeated Gigantic by three lengths. Te Waipu 'was fourth, with Senorita and Loonibinalion well beaten. Tea Trader's win was achieved with great ease and he is an improved colt since lie raced at Trenthnm. Jonathan displayed some improvement and Gigantic was finishing ori fa'r'y well. Bronze Tray, at odd? on, was over twice as good a favourite as Oay Cockade fo'* the Rangiriri High-weight, and he repeated his first day's form when lie again won irom. Cruachan. Kairuri took charge of his rider when the field was lining up and delayed the start by bolting twice round. (ray Cockade. Bronze Tray and Cruarlian were prominent early. Gay Cockade and Hit the Deck then going on in the lead from Cruachan. Kairuri and Bronze 'I ray. Oay Cockade and Hit the Deck were still the leaders at the turn from Cruachan. Bronze Tray and Royal Ruler. Bronze Trav finished on well to score by a neck from Cruachan, who defeated Royal Ruler by a length. Gay Cockade was fourth, succeeded by Hit the Deck and Kairuri. Bronze Tray again came from a good way back and stayed on too well for the others Cruachan ran another good race, and Royal Ruler was closer at the finish than at any other stage. Cay Cockade had every chance and again failed to run on at the finish. Mr. H. W. Wilson, at the instigation of the jockey. J. 11. Mcßae. lodged a complaint against. Bronze Tray for interference with Cruachan in the straight, but the objection was dismissed. The Sprint Contest. Another field of five came out for the Flying Handicap, and Paganelli was a good favourite over Tea Chat. From a good start Tea. Chat and King Ford were first to move and King Ford led across the top from Imamint, Tea Chat and Paganelli. Nearing the turn Paganelli ran up to King Ford ami they were, the leaders into the straight from Tea. Chat and Ganpat. A furlong Irom the post, King Ford and Paganelli just led 'lea Chat, and Paganelli stayed oil best to win by three-parts of a length from King Ford, who beat Ganpat by a length. Tea Chat was close up fourth, with Imamint last. It was a good contest, between Paganelli and King Ford, and Paganelli outstayed the light-weight at, the finish. Tea Chat was right, in the picture until about 70 yards from the post, when lie weakened and was cut out of third place by (ianput. Lady Musk was responsible for a mild surprise in winning the fluntly Hack Handicap for which Holly Holm and Cay idea were the favourites. 'The start was very uneven and Lady Lulu and Homelight jumped out, clear, while Princess Bedo was badly left. Lady Lilian and Homelight led along the back deal of Holly Holm and Cay Idea, and they were still the leaders at tho turn, where Gay Idea and Princess Bede were moving up. (lav Idea ranged alongside the leaders at the distatieo and Lady Musk then came with a good run to beat Cay Idea, by half a length. Lady Lulu was a length away third, and Holly Holm was fourth, with Princess Bede and .Homelight, next. Lady Musk was a. good way back early and finished on well.
