DRAINAGE RATES.
Sir,—lf current reports are correct.the Amalgamated Drainage Board, Taupiri, is intending to collect a rate of Id per acre over, fill ground under its jurisdiction, whether swamp or hill, country. Could some of your readers interested make this point, clear, as a rate demand served on farmers with rolling country .will come as a distinct shock, and can bo regarded by them as a most unjust charge for the benefit of the speculators holding largo blocks of the Taupiri swamp. Another point which, few ratepayers are familiar with :—Cnn a hoard collect, rates on A class ground after two years without giving or making an attempt to give any benefit whatever? If it cannot, does this rated A class ground become another class, or automatically fall outsirlo the control of tho board ? Indirectly Interested.
