RIGID ECONOMY NEEDED. DIFFICULTIES OF METHODISTS. [by telegraph.—press association-.] CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday. " It would be impossible to convey in mere words any adequate idea how difficult financial matters have been during the year," stated the report to the Methodist Conference on home missions and the Church extension fund. The report continued that the most rigid economy consistent with effective work should be observed for some time. It was the committee's belief that minimum or standard stipends were already too low and no reduction in those standards was recommended. It was suggested. however, that reasonable reduction be made in home missionaries' stipends where more than the minimum was being paid. The report was adopted. PRESBYTERIAN FUNDS. REVENUE DROPS BY £II,OOO [BY TELEGRAPH. —PEESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Figures presented to the Presbyterian General Assembly to-day showed, a drop of £II,OOO in the congregational revenue for the year. * In presenting the financial statement Mr. G. V. Chapman, the treasurer, said several of the Church congregations ivera in difficulties financially.
