THEFT FROM EMPLOYER.
FARM LABOURER CHARGED. STOLE FOR NEEDY FRIEND. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "WIIANGAIIEI, Tuesday. A young man working at Whakapara as a farm labourer, Robert William Strongman, appeared in the Magistrate's Court at Whangarei to-day charged with a breach of his probation order and with the theft of 7s Bd. Accused pleaded guilty, and said ho had committed the theft from his employer so as to give the money to a friend who was in need of assistance.
Senior-Sergeant Powell said accused had appeared before the Court at I'ukekohe last November on a charge of obtaining credit by fraud, and luid been admitted to probation for 12 months. Accused had reported fairly regularly, and had been conducting himself well in the meantime. On tho breach of probation charge accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within 12 months, and on the charge of tlihft he was convicted and ordered to make restitution.
