The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, was among the large audience in the Town Hall to hear the A grade bands first test piece, "L'Euiile du Nord."
The results wereWoolston Band (conductor, R. J. Eetall), 1; Port Nicholson Silver Band (J. J. Drew), 2; Wanganui Garrison Band (J. M. Watson), 3; St. Kilda Municipal Band (J. Dickson), 4; Wellington Municipal Tramways Band (E. Franklin), 5. The aggregate points will bo announced after the bands have played the-second test piece to-morrow evening. " The playing of the bands lias been very good," said the judge, Mr. J. J. Kelly, in announcing the placings. " I have not come here to flatter, but to help. Sometimes to-night 1 felt I could not have helped." Results of solo events were:—
Euphonium Solo (own selection).—O. Williams (Wanganui Garrison), 97 points, 1; J. McClintock (Woolston), 91. 2; T. H. Hughes (N T elson Garrison), 90, 3. E Flat Soprano Cornet (own selecWebb (Queen Alexandra's Own), 88 points, 1; J. King (Wellington Municipal Tramways), 86, 2. Flugol Horn Solo (own selection). —E. Ormrod (Port Nicholson Silver). 86 points, ] : P. (J. Ward (Royal Naval Volunteers), 85, 2; W. Ham'bly (Port Nicholson Silver). 84. 3. Tenor Trombone Solo.—E. Williams (Woolston), 1; J. R. Marshall (Port Nicholson), 2; W. Matson (Port Nicholson) and J. Olennie (Wellington Tramways), equal, 3. The judge awarded Williams 98 points, and said he would hold his own in any part of„tho world. E Flat and Double E Flat Bass Solo. —W. Hickman (Wanganui Garrison), 1: L. 'J'. G. Hickman (Wanganui Garrison) and M. H. Codyre (Christchurch Municipal), equal, 3. Quartette, "Euryantho."
