METROPOLITAN SHOW.
OPENING DAY ON FRIDAY. MANY NEW ATTRACTIONS. Many interesting attractions will be incorporated in the annual show of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association to be held at the Epsom Show Grounds on Friday and Saturday. Sheep dog trials will be an entertaining feature. Mr. P. McKenzie, of Broadwood, has given excellent exhibitions in shedding and penning at past shows, but the forthcoming exhibition will provide a good opportunity of witnessing a sheep dog trial in progress. The trials will be run off on the first day and the three dogs in the final will compete on People's Day.
Extra classes listed for competition account for the outstanding increase in the dairy stock section. Some fine cattle will be on exhibition. Three former Friesian champions are competing for the championship award, and there are some notably large entries of imported Jersey stock. Lambs, which will be subsequently forwarded to Smithfield for further judging, will be a feature of the sheep section and will furnish an indication of the fat-lamb-producing potentialities of the Auckland Province.
Bacon pigs will form an excellent exhibit. The carcases will be displayed at the Auckland Winter Exhibition in June. Some fine entries of porker pigs have also been received. They will be forwarded to Smithfield, and as they comprise the first pork exhibit of the province to be sent to the English market they have attracted Dominion-wide interest.
! Entertaining attractions which will add to the success of the show will include thrilling steer-riding events and a sheepshearing competition for which post-entries will be accepted. A special feature will •'bje a spectacle presented by military and naval units, which will also carry out various intricate exercises. The Ponsonby Boys' Band, of about 60 performers, will play selections of popular and classical music.
