LOAD OF WOOL ON FIRE.

LORRY OVERTURNS ON LINE. TRAIN DELAYED AT CROSSING. [nV TELEGRAPH. —rRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Monday. A motor-lorry, heavily laden with wool, capsized as it attempted to cross the railway line just south of Waikanae, and immediately. burst into flames. The bales of wool, which were scattered across the railway crossing, alsc caught fire. The flames lit up the countryside for miles. So fierce was the fire that the woodwork of the cattle-stop caught alight and held up the northbound express, which arrived at Palmerston North about 70 minutes late. A long queue of motorcars from both directions also had to wait until the fire subsided.

The lorry, which was owned by the Highway Transport Company, was bringing a large load of wool from Shannon to Wellington. Despite the rain some of the bales of wool were still smouldering yesterday afternoon. The driver of the lorry was not seriously injured.
