SPEED-BOAT DRIVER.

VISIT OF ENGLISHWOMAN. An Englishwoman spew!-boat driver, Miss Marion Betty Carstairs, is a passenger on the Mariposa, which arrived at Auckland on Saturday. Miss Curst#irs proposes to build a new motor-boat in which to attack the speed record lecently set up by Gar Wood, of the United States She has had many successes in motor-boat contests, but luck has been against her in her races in the United States. In 1928 she entered for the Unrmsworth Trophy races on; f the Detroit River, but was unsuccessful. Tn 1929 she tried again, hut once more failed to reach the record. In 1930 she had a new boat built, but it was wrecked by a fuel tank explosion.
