THE MARAMA SAILS.
CREW VACANCY FILLED. NO DIFFICULTY EXPERIENCED. After being delayed in port for 18 hours owing to a shortage in the crew, the Union Company's passenger steamer Marama left Auckland for Sydney on Saturday morning. On Friday there was a vacancy in the stokehold department for a - peggy," or firemen's steward. Owing to a number of unemployed applicants not being allowed on board in the morning to apply for the position they refused to allow the vacancy to he filled until the following day, although the Marama was scheduled to sail for Sydney at three o'clock on Friday afternoon with passengers, mail and cargo. At eight o'clock on Saturday morning about. 30 men applied ffor the position and no difficulty was experienced in making a choice. After the new man had been signed on the steamer sailed shortly before nine o'clock.
