VESSEL BREAKS DOWN.

MISHAP TO THE ARGUS. BEING TOWED TO PORT. NATURE OF OCCIDENT UNKNOWN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —I'REPS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Sunday. The Holm Shipping Company's new motor-ship Argus, which called at Napier on, Friday for supplies, on route from Papeete to Wellington, has broken down and is-being towed to Wellington by the Gabriella. The Argus left Napier at 5.20 p.m. on Friday for Wellington. Between 9 and 10 p.m. on Saturday the Pakura, bound from Gisborno to Wellington, passed the Argus in.tow of the Gabriella, 10 miles north of Castlepoiut. Neither the Argus nor Gabriella is fitted with wireless. The Gabriella morsed a request to the Pnkura to radio to Wellington reporting that the Argus had broken down and that the Gabriella was towing her to Wellington. 1 lie Pakuia could not get Wellington and came on to port, when Captain Miles reported the position to Captain Holm. The Gabriella, a steamer of 1587 gross tonnage, is engaged in the intercolonial cargo trade and is owned by the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd. She left Wellington on Friday for Gisborne to completo unloading coal and timber from Australia.
