AMMON RA'S FUTURITY STAKES

VERTIGERN AND CAPE ROYAL. (Receiver! February '2l. 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 21. New Zealand horses did extremely well ill Oaulliold yesterday, when the Victoria Amateur Turf Chili's Autumn Meeting was concluded. 'J lie star performer was the Auckland-bred gelding Amnion Ra, who won the Caulfield Futurity Stakes in decisive style. Vertigeru. who was bred in Australia, hut has done most r>f his racing, in New Zealand, narrowly won the Wood cliff Handicap after junking a fine run in the straight. Cape Royal, owned hy Mr. W. R. Kenihall, of Wellington, won I lie second division of the Alma Stakes, and Actaeon, also owned by Mr. KembaJl, ran second in the St. ('lair Trial. The ex-New Zealand jockey M. McCarten rode the winning double, Amnion Ra and Vertigern. Amnion Ra's time, 1m 25!|k, is a record for Caulfield racecourse. He was lying fifth coming into the straight and finished with great dash to win by a fairly substantial margin. Amnion Ra's stake winnings now total £23.253 Cape Royal won his race brilliantly. He was eighth before tho turn arid made a spectacular run in the straight. Vcrtigern's winning margin was not large, but the manner in which he mowed down the leaders in the run home was very impressive.
