TROTTING MEETING.

OPENING POSTPONED.

PROGRAMME for to-day.

. 'EFFECT OF THE WEATHER. HEAVY GOING TROBABLE. / Heavy rain /on Friday night, continuing elnio-t incessantly on Saturday morning, i! caused . the comjnittoe of the Auckland Trotting Club (o postpone the, opening of its February meeting until to-day. The second day will ho held on Wednesday. Although the 'course was showing signs of drying yesterday morning, heavy showers which fell later made the footing holding, and after the first few events are run it may become heavy. Under such conditions, some of the well-fancied candidates may not, bo capable of displaying their best form, particularly in the Otahuhu Handicap. Impromptu, who would have an undeniable chance on top of the ground, fails to act in soft going, but Gold Treasure's prospects will bo greatly enhanced. Auto Machine, who is well - fancied in the two chief events, may not start in the Moss Davis Handicap if the course proves heavy, but no definite decision will be arrived nt until after ho races in the Otahuhu Handicap. On the assumption that the track will be holding, even if not heavy, the following / horses may receive most support:— Trial Handicap.—Bessie Parrish, Lucky (Voyage, Moko Girl. Waiheke Handicap.—Free Logan, Peggwav, Prince Etawah. Otahuhu' Handicap.—Auto Machine. Mountain Dell, Gold Treasure. Papakura. Handicap.—Travis, Kewpie's Triumph, Bingen Crest.
