WANGANUI WOOL SALE.
CLIPS OF POOR QUALITY. PREVIOUS RATES FOR BEST. INFERIOR SORTS NEGLECTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI. Friday. The bulk of the offering at to-night's wool sale in Wanganui, the second of the season in this centre, comprised wools of low quality, of 44-46 counts. Uiero was a full bench of buyers, but stylish first grade wools, which were anything but prominent in tho catalogue, were the only sorts that can be quoted as firm on the prices realised at late sales. Inferior classes were neglected. A great deal of seedy, inferior wool was offered. This showed a drop of a halfpenny a pound on the last Wanganui sale. Low crossbred was down three farthings to a penny. Any low wools touched with seed were neglected at prices ranging from 3d to 3|d. Good crossbred wool brought from 4d to 4£d. Crutchings found a poor sale. Bellies and pieces were from par to a farthing down, compared with tho January market here. Thero was a fair demand for lambs' wool of good staple, but dingy lots were a halfpenny lower. A review of the sale generally discloses that the quality of the wool was not of a standard to command respect under present conditions. Buyers, particularly those representing Bradford firms, operated on limits and filled requirements from clips which showed quality. The Continent took the major share of the wool sold.' Bradford, in the earlier part of the sale at least, showed more Hesitation than usual. Japan was in the market to some extent, and probably gave a fillip to the competition for some of the coarser clips and crutchings. The sale commenced at seven o'clock and it was intended to finish it to-night. The range of prices will not be available until to-morrow.
