MOTORISTS' CONFERENCE.
REGULATIONS AND EVIDENCE. PROPOSED NEW SYSTEM. [by telegraph.—preps association*.] THE CHATEAU, Friday. Tho half-yearly conference of the North Island Motor Union, held at the Chateau Tongariro, to-day, was attended by delegates from all associations concerned, and also representatives of the South Island Union. It was decided (hat efforts he made to have evidence taken at the town residences of motorists charged with breaches of regulations, instead of having to travel to the Court, which in many places were some distance away. Mr. E. A. Bait, of Wellington, said that Inspector Loj.dell, of Wellington, entirely approved of the proposal. The solicitors to both the Auckland and Wellington Automobile Associations were in entire agreement that such a procedure should be allowed. Replies to the circular to the associations as to the advisability of including a colour-vision test for licence holders were mainly against the proposal, which was rejected by the meeting. A remit which was passed urged the uniformity of traffic signals throughout New Zealand, the need for impressing on thoso in charge the necessity for the proper control, and scavenging of motor camps, the wearing of uniforms or distinctive badges by local body officers whils on duty, the need for teachers giving monthly lessons on "safety first" to pupils under their jurisdiction, and the need for the enforcement of regulations regarding the stopping of vehicles on tho wrong side of the road, the latter applying particularly to mail cars.
