PRISONERS' OFFER.
HOLIDAY FOR CHAPLAIN. WISH TO MEET EXPENSES. Proof that human kindliness can flourish in unexpected quarters and under adverse conditions was given this week to the Rev. (.«. E. Moreton, • prison chaplain and secretary to the Auckland Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society. Hearing that Mr. Moreton had not had a holiday for two years, two prisoners- at Mount Eden gaol approached the prison authorities with a request that they each be allowed to give Mr. Moreton £5 from their prison earnings tpward the expenses of a holiday. When the facts became known to Mr. Moreton he told the men that, although deeply touched and keenly appreciative of their generosity, tho money which they earned must remain intact to assist them in their rehabilitation upon leaving prison. In view of that fact he would have to disappoint them by refusing their offer.
