LONG RACE FOR LIFE.

A young miner at an Aconib, Northumberland, colliery, raced for a mil© through the underground workings to save the life of his father, who was pinned face downward by a stone weighing nearly a ton which had fallen. The miner, Gladstone Fox, was working with his father, Jack Fox, when the stone fell, and the elder man was in danger of suffocation. Joseph Nicholson helped young Fox in an effort in release the imprisoned man, but finding that they were unable to remove the boulder the son ran for assistance, and the father was rescued in a semi-conscious condition.
