SANCTITY OF CONTRACT.

Sir, —Two of your correspondents have lately indicated that, in some way unspecified by them, the Bank of England has been guilty of a "breach of .contract.." Might I ask these gentlemen to state explicitly through your columns in what this brafach consists ? So far as the writer is aware, tho Bank of England has carried out, and continues to cany out, its contracts with meticulous precision. Tho gold debts of both Great Britain and the bank have been paid in gold—tho sterling debts of both have been paid in sterling. The fact (hat the British Government has "gone off tho gold standard'' does not, of course, constitute any "breach of contract" on the part of the bank, which is an entity entirely separate from the Government, and, moreover, docs not undertake to pay its notes in gold. Inquirer.
