PROBATION REFUSED.

FAILURE TO ACCOUNT. PERIOD OF DETENTION. On charges of failing to account for sums of money totalling £l5B 3s 6d, Augustus Samuel Hodgson was sentenced in tho Supreme Court yesterday to 18 months' reformative detention. In asking for leniency, counsel said prisoner had a position to which he could g°"The case is not one for probation," said Mr. Justice Smith. Accused had shown very definite criminal tendencies since 1930. When working on a commission basis he had falsely represented that ho had obtained certain orders and had been placed on probation.
