WAITEMATA COUNTY.
PROGRESS OF ROAD WORKS. LARGER BUILDING PERMITS. The acting-engineer of the Waitemata County Council, Mr. L. F. Faram, reported to yesterday's meeting that further work was being carried out on the Waikumete-West Coast main highway with relief labour and a decided improvement was to be noted. Owing to tho difficulty which had been experienced in piocnring tents for the housing of relief workers, metalling operations had not yet been commenced on this road, but there were hopes that a camp would be established at Kare Kare about the end of next week. Tenders would bo called immediately for tho sealing of the Parkhurst main highway leading from Helensvillo to the springs and the work would be expedited. A large schedule of improvements to roads all over tho county was being carried out. Building permits to the value of £5795, the largest sum for a considerable period, had been issued during the past month.
