Three women and two children drowned and material damage estimated at nearly a-C|uarter s of a million pounds are the effects of the heavy floods in the Gamtoos Valley, says a message from Port Elizabeth. Farms have been swept awav, leaving scores homeless, crops have been ruined and for miles the scene is one of desolation. The beach on both sides of the Gamtoos River is strewn for miles with the carcases of dead animals, reptiles, trees, furniture and farm produce.
