METHOD CRITICISED.
SUPPLY OF RELIEF ORDERS. GROCERS VOICE OBJECTION. Disapproval of the existing method of distributing relief orders in some centres was expressed at the conference of Master Grocers in Wellington last week. A motion was carried empowering Mr. J. lleaton Barker, an Auckland delegate, to frame a resolution with a view to further action in the matter, the resolution to be submitted to the various associations represented at the conference for approval. " We strongly contend (hat if possible some arrangement should bo made whereby any reputable grocer may be able to supply relief," Mr. Barker said. " Numbers of grocers scattered all over the Dominion have, been assisting in times of necessity, and it is hard to see good money go elsewhere. We must take every possible action to secure the adoption ot a similar method to that operating in Sydney, where the association arranges with the department with regard to fixed schedules and prices. Mr. Barker said that in Auckland last ypar over A 123,000 had been spent with one linn in relief supplies, and it was estimated that this year the amount would be £50,000.
