INDIAN CRICKETERS.
TEAM TO TOUR ENGLAND. MAHARAJAS AS MEMBERS. (Received February 5. 9.25 p.m.) CALCUTTA, Feb. 4. The Indian Board of Cricket Control has selected the Maharaja Patiala to he captain of the Indian team to visit England shortly, Prince Ghanashyam Singh, of Limdi, to be deputy-captain and the Maharaja Kumar, of Vizianagram, vicecaptain The team, which will comprise 18 players, was selected to-day and will sail on April 2. It will meet all the leading English county teams, the Marylebone Club and the University elevens. Also it will play one test match at Lord's in June. The Nawab of Pataudi, one of the leading batsmen in England last season, refused to join the team, it is believed because he was overlooked both as vicecaptain and deputy-captain. The anomaly of the position is that the Nawab will go to England this season to play for Worcester and presumably if he catches the eye of the English selectors, as he did last year, he may become a member of the team to tour Australia.
