WATER FOR WORKSHOPS.
OTAHUHU SUPPLY TAKEN.
THREE YEARS' ARRANGEMENT. The offer of the »Otaliuhu Borough Council to supply water to the railways workshops at Otahuhu for a period of three years at Hid per 1000 gallons was accepted in a letter from the department at a meeting on Thursday evening. The letter stated this offer would be accepted in respect of the workshops, but as thi water was found unsuitable for locomotives, and its use in that connection involved the department in heavy expense in bailer repair work, the department could not bind itself to take the water at the Otahuhu station yard for the period mentioned. The contract entered into is of considerable importance to the borough, as the workshops consume approximately 26,000)000 gallons of water annually.
