THE HAPPY MEDIUM.
A dry cough with great difficulty in elearing the throat is often the result of excessive smoking. In this connection it is impossible to Jav down any hard and fast rules because what may be harmful to one may not affect another in the slightest. Treatment is difficult. Life is too short for some people to make martyrs of themselves. They would much rather carry on with smoking and have their cough than give ii up and feel fit. There is a great deal to be said for this point of view, but there is another way out. Try to discover a brand of tobacco or cigarette which does not cause irritation. There are plenty to choose from and they do rot all suit the same throat. The only real cure for a chronic pharyngitis, as it is called, when due to irritation of this kind is to drop the habit altogether.
