NATIVE FARM SCHEMES.
BAY OF PLENTY AREAS. MINISTER MEETS OWNERS. [from our own correspondent.] OPOTIKI, Friday. A visit to Te Araroa was 'made last week-end by Sir Apirana Ngata, Minister of Native Affairs, and his party, which included Mr. A. T. Carroll, a. well-known Wairoa farmer. The Minister met the native owners of the Whangaparoa blocks, on the eastern side of the Opotiki County boundary, and it was agreed that these blocks Bhould be incorporated in the development scheme. Immediately the agreement is reached, parties of natives will be set to work to cut scrub and form a road to the Opotiki County boundary. This road will join with the new East Coast Road through the Opotiki County, of which the work of construction is well in hand. The Minister informed a meeting of native owners that in his opinion another two years would see the Whangaparoa district producing a lnore plentiful supply of butter-fat than Wharekahika. Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., expressed his deep interest in the Minister's scheme and said Sir Apirana was doing remarkable work. In conversation with settlers, Mr. Broadfoot expressed the opinion that total derating of farm lands was bound to eventuate shortly. During a brief visit to Hick's Bay, Sir Apirana Ngata arranged for a muchneeded road near the harbour to be made. Men will be placed on this work during the week.
