TEA-GROWING.
Sir,--In the Herald of tho 4th there ,is yf/ory interesting extract from the TTehai.d of 50 years ago, in which it was slated thai, after viewing a tea-growing experiment in the Dominion and lasting the. lea grown, an expert from India, Mr. Hcid, was of opinion that if the trees wore properly pruned so as to get a " flush " of leaf, very good tea could be produced in Auckland. I have read in Professor Arnold Walls' book " Off tho Chain " that when he travelled through Ceylon he devoted considerable attention to tea-growing, and was definitely of opinion that the North of Auckland should grow excellent tea. Perhaps tea-growing here has been tried and has proved a failure, but, if not, it would be well worth while for the Research Department to thoroughly test the matter out, and it might be of very great value to this country to investigate the possibility of establishing a great industry here. Orange Tirs.
