SCHOLASTIC SUCCESS.
AUCKLAND STUDENT'S WORK.
Another notable scholastic feat, showing the determination of a youth to complete his education in spite of difficulties, has been reported. The scholar .is Alexander M. McMaster, of St. Heliers Bay. After leaving primary school McMaster obtained employment occupied him in the day, and he attended evening classes at. the Seddon Memorial Technical College. After a year, he secured work on a farm, where he remained for two years, saving sufficient money to complete hi s education.
Last year McMaster returned to Auckland, and throughout the year attended day classes at a private college and night classes at, tho technical College. He sat for the accountancy preliminary examination at the end of the year and has been advised that ho has passed. He has thus passed the examination, which is basically the same as that for the university entrance, after only one year's, full-time secondary education.
The accountancy preliminary examination differs from the universitv entrance in that candidates take economics instead of a modern language, and are required to pass u more difficult arithmetic paper.
