In calculating the returns on shares in companies which pay their dividends outside New Zealand exchange rates, being liable to fluctuation, have not been taken into consideration. The 4 per. cent. 1953 issue gained 16s 3d and the seven other issues were much firmer £han yesterday. Buyers were eager to avail themselves of small parcels rushed on to the market by nervoirts holders who were influenced by the uncertaiT trend of political and fii\alicial events. It is regarded as unlikely that normal conditions will obtain until the Loan Council has finished its deliberations. Silver is quoted at 19jd an ounce spot and, 19 3-8 d forward, compared with 19 5-8 d and 19 13-16 d yesterday.
