AUSTRALIAN GOLDMINING.
ACTIVITIES IN THE WEST. The Western Australian correspondent of the Australasian and Banking Record •writes: —"The new year opens very much more brightly in 'the gold-mining industry in this S:,ate than was the case at the beginning of 1931. Since the. granting of the bonus some additional 2000 men have found work on the mines of Australia and 5-irice 80 per cent, of the gold of the Corrimonwealth is produced in this State, naturally the majority of them are to he found at work in Western Australia. In wages this means approximately £IO,OOO a, week, or over half a million pounds a year more in circulation. "It. is indeed a long time since anything like the number of people wore engaped in prospering, and while the greatest increase in production has come from the lode or reef mines, still no small amount has been found by the itinerant prospector and Fitf-sicker. Of course, there is always the possibility that some of these people may come across something really good!.''
