WEEKLY WESTFI ELD SALE. i LATE RATES MAINTAINED. 1 AVERAGE YARDINGS MADE. ' There was no improvement in the general level of values at the Westfield fat stock market yesterday. Most lines were yarded 'in average numbers, but no improvement in demand was shown. Thero was a slightly smaller yarding of fat cattle. The quality of tlio stock was good, \iut there was only a limited demand and prices receded for some lines of ox beef, while cow and heifer beef sold at about late rates. Extra choice ox made up to 21s per 1001b., the same figure as that realised last week, while choice brought to 20s, which was also realised by prime cow and heifer beef. Extra heavy prime steers sold up to £8 12s 6d, whicli was realised by two trucks consigned by Mr. B. Reed, of Waerenga. A truck oF extra heavy prime steers from G. Vosper, of Cambridge, sold at £8 2s 6d each, and another two trucks from Mr. C. G. Vosper, of Dingley Dell, sold at £8 each. Heavy primo steers ranged from £6 7s 6d to £7 17s 6d, lighter making to £6 17s 6d and light to £5 17s 6d. Extra heavy prime cows and heifers were sold at from £4 10s to £5 2s 6d, heavy prime being done at from £3 15s to £4 15s, and lighter at from £2 10s to £3 12s 6d. Tho large yarding of sheep met with a steady demand, and for the most part prices remained around last week's level. Heavy prime wethers failed to realise the rates ruling at the last sale, selling at from 13s 6d to 14s 6d. Heavy prime ewes ranged from 7s 9d to 9s, while the values for prime hoggets varied from 9s to 13s. Thero was a good yarding of lambs, but a large portion was of poor quality, with tho result that values were easier all round. Prices for. porkers were on the whole easier, the cood average yarding of pigs meeting with only a small demand throughout the sale. The best price for porkers was 28s, compared with 34s last week. Heavy baconers made up to 395, maintaining the prices -ruling at tho pre-" vious sale. There was a smaller offering of fat and young calves, and values for some classes improved. Runners were not in request and values remained unchanged, while there was also a decreased demand for very heavy vealers. The quality was fust-class, but no better demand existed and late rates -were about equalled. Cow and heifer beef was penned in average numbers and realised late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 2.1s per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 17a 6d to 20s: secondary and plain ox, 16s to 17s; prime young cow and heifer heef, 17s to 20s; ordinary cow beef, 8s to 16s. All well finished lines drew steady competition and realised late rates, while second quality and poorly finished were easier in value. The 3tock market at Addington io-day was again a discouraging one, as values in the fat stock sections declined. In the fat lamb and fat sheep sections export buyers were operating on a reduced schedule. Values in the case of lambs on the new schedule, are up to 5d per lb for under 361b. prime lambs and down to 3jd for seconds. For fat sheep the sale was generally easier in regard to prices, the decline amounting to about Is a head for ewes and a little less for wethers. The new export schedule is up to 3id per lbfor wethers and up to ljd for ewes. Freezing company buyers operated strictly to the new limits. Store Sheep.—For lambs the sale was a very steady one and prices remained firm at last week's rates. Adult sheep were dull of sale. Good mixed sex lambs made up to 9s; medium lambs, 7s to 8s; ordinary. 5s to Gs 9d; inferior, to 4s 9d-, good sixtooth halfbred wethers, 7s Gd to 8s Gd; two'tooth, to 9s 3d; ordinary two-tooth and four-topth ewes, to 8s lid; ordinary four and five-year ewes, 3s 3d to 5s lOd; aged ewe 3, to 2s 7d. Fat Lambs.—The entry of 4000 was slightly bigger than at recent markets. Butchers' lambs sold keenly, but eased in value over the concluding stages of the auction. Extra prime realised up to 19s lOd; prime, 16s to 18s; medium, lis Gd to 15s Gd; light, 8s Gd Fat Sheep.—An entry of 5500 head. The quality was outstanding in some cases. A steady sale at values which showed a slight decline on last week for all classes. Only six pens of ox beef wore included in the offering, the balance beinc cows and heifers. Any pens show.ing quality and finish met with fair competition. Prime ox beef made from 17s to 19s per 1001b. and prime heifer about the same. Cow beef was neglected, several pens being sold at lis per 1001b.
