HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. INDICATIONS FOR CHANGE. The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—An extensive .and intense westerly storm area is moving on to the Dominion from the Tasman Sea, and is likely to especially affect the South Island. Expect fair and warm weather in most districts to-day, but with increasing cloudiness, and a fairly general rainfall following tomorrow, heavy in western areas. Northerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong, freshening, and increasing strong to gale, particularly in places southward of New Plymouth and Napier. Sons becoming rough and increasing generally. Local outlook: Fair and warm to-day, then clouding over, and rain following on Sunday. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.00 in. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The first wave of the depression referred to yesterday crossed the South Island to-day, but the main depression still lies over tho Tasman Sea. Indications are for west to north winds, strong south of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere light to moderate, but freshening. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and off shore south of Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong northerly winds and rather rough seas, Weather cloudy in districts with a westerly aspect and in the Far South, with some rain; otherwise fair and warm.
