NEW BRITISH DUTIES.
HORTICULTURAL PRODUCTS. ISSUE OF FIRST ORDER. (Received December 30, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Dec. 09. The first order under, the Horticultural Products Emergency Customs Act, which will conio into operation on January 5, imposes duties on various fresh soft fruits when British are available. Tlio duties include 2s 6d a lb. on early strawberries and 6d on late ones; 3d a lb. on cherries; one halfpenny a lb. on gooseberries; 14s a cwt. on plums. Duties also are imposed on fresh vegetables, salads, cucumbers, peas, new potatoes and asparagus of 4d to Is a lb; on mushrooms, 8d a lb.; on cut flowers of 2d a lb.; on practically all the more expensive varieties all the year round 9d a lb.; and on rose trees, 30s a 100.
