BOARD DISMISSED.
MAGISTRATE'S STRICTURES. DUTIES NOT CARRIED OUT. SYDNEY. Dec. '2O. A protracted investigation by the Industrial Magistrate, Mr. Prior, resulted in a stringent criticism of the three commissioners who comprise the. Western Lands Board. He has declared tliem guilty of misbehaviour and incompetence by their refusal or deliberate neglect to carry out the duties of their office. The New South Wales Government has decided to dismiss the commissioners and to appoint the following new board:— Messrs. P. M. McGirr, Legislative Councillor, a brother of the Minister of Local Government; T. Watson, surveyor, of Forbes, who was a Lang plan candidate for Calare at the recent Federal election, and W. Stagg. secretary of the Returned Soldiers' League. The term of appointment is seven years. Mr. McGirr, as chairman, will receive £ISOO a year, and the others £IOOO each. The announcement of the personnel of the board has caused surprise.
