The Canadian and New Zealand delegates who have come to Honolulu to endeavour to negotiate a trade, treaty began then* formal sessions to-day in camera. One of the delegates said the proceedings would Inst a week, perhaps longer. Informal conversations took place at tbo week-end between the. Hon. W. Downic (Stewart, New Zealand Minister of Customs, and Mr. IT. }L Stevens, Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce. Both Ministers reiterated that no information can be given heie, but explained that their purpose was to arrange for preferential rates rather than the abolition of tariffs.
