SHEFFIELD SHIELD CRICKET, VICTORIA'S SURPRISE WIN. (Received December '29. 9.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Dec. 29. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match against New South Wales, the Victorian eleven in their second innings made 435 runs for seven wickets (Darling 111). Theak took two wickets for 94 runs. Victoria, which appeared to be in a hopeloss position on Monday, thus won by three wickets, thanks to' WoodTffll, O'Brien and Darling. At Adelaide in the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia the Queensland team in their second innings made 209. Grimmett took four wickets for 70, and Lee five for 70. South Australia won by 280 runs. BILLIARDS IN ENGLAND. DAVIS PLAYING LINDRUM. (Received December 29. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. -2?. A week's billiards match between Davis and Lindrum has been commenced at Blackpool. The scores are:—Davis (receives 3500), 4727, including breaks of 318 and 435; Lindrum, 2206, including breaks of 439, 299, 231 and 434. AUSTRALIAN BOXER. COOK SETTLES IX ENGLAND. (Received December 29, 10.15 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 98. Sporting Life states that George Cook, Australian boxer, has permanently settled in England. He is to meet- Maurice Griselle, French heavy-weight champion, in a 15-round bout at Leicester oil January 18. ' FOOTBALL IN ENGLAND. LATEST MATCH RESULTS. LONDON, Dec. 28. In the Association football match in the first division Aston Villa beat Newcastle United, 3—o. Other results are:—Second division: Wolverhampton beat Charlton A, 3—l: third division, southern section, _ Queen's Park beat Fulham, 3—l, and Northampton beat Bristol Rovers, 6—o. In the Northern Union code Rochdale Hornets beat Featberstone Rovers, 7—2. Leeds beat Wigan, 9—5, and Warrington beat llunslet, 3—7.
