CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP.
GOOD ENTRIES RECEIVED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] "WELLINGTON, Saturday. Fourteen entries have been received for the annual tourney to decide the chess championship of New Zealand, commencing at Napier on Boxing Day. They include the present champion, Gyles (Wellington), live ex-champions in Gunuerson .(Melbourne), Purdy (New South Wales), Erskino (Southland), Grierson (Auckland), and Kelling (Wellington). Other entrants are Severne (Nelson), Scott (Wanganui) and Smith (Napier), who are champions of their respective clubs, and Maddox and Miller, ex-champions of the Auckland Club. The entry is the strongest since the Dunedin Exhibition congress six years ago.
