PAY IN THE NAVY.

REDUCTIONS ANNOUNCED. NEW ZEALAND DIVISION. A reduction of 10 per cent, in the rates of pay for officers and men serving in tho New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy is to be effected from January 1, 1932. The new rates have now been gazetted. Under the new regulations seamen ratings will receive the following daily wages, tho rates paid by the' Imperial Government being given in parentheses: — Chief petty officers, 9s 6d (7s 8d); petty officers, 8s" 2d (6s 4d); leading seamen. 7s 3d (4s 9d); able seamen, 6s 4d (3s 8d); ordinary seainen, 4s 6d. The pay for each class of ratings increases after three and six years' service. The daily rates of pay for Royal Marines are as follows: —Marines, 6s 4d; corporals, 7s 6d; sergeants, 8s 2d; coloursergeants, 9s 6d. The rates rise according to the length of service in each ranking.
