FAINTED AT WHEEL.
BUS DRIVER'S RESOURCE
Commendable presence of mind was shown by a motor-omnibus driver lately when confronted with a sudden emergency in a crowded London street. He was taken suddenly ill, and quietly drawing out of the heavy traffic to the kerb he applied his brakes, switched off his engine, and fainted. The conductor, not understanding the sudden stop, repeatedly rang his bell and then, as the omnibus remained stationary, left his platform to investigate. He found the driver lying unconscious across the wheel. The omnibus was packed with passengers The driver was given first-aid at the roadside, where a large crowd gathered, and on recovery asked to be allowed to drive on. Officials had arrived in the meantime, however, and sent him in an ambulance to a hospital. The passengers, many of whom thanked the driver for his prompt action, were transferred to another omnibus.
