SCHOOL INSPECTORS.
PENDING RETIREMENTS. THREE IN AUCKLAND AREA. The roliremenf fit the end of fltis year of Mr. J. R. Robertson, senior inspector of schools at. Auckland, and Mr. (R. Munro f.nd Mi'. D. E. Leslie, two schools inspectors at Auckland, is announced. It is understood tlfat Dr. J. W. Mcllwraitb, senior inspector, of Wellington an.l formerly of Auckland, will replace Mi. Robertson. It is believed that, for reasons of economy, no appointments will be made to the positions vacated by the other inspectors. Mr. Robertson has had 45 years' service wi h the Education Department. He commenced his teaching service in Otago and was appointed an inspector in 1911, when lie was headmaster of the Lawrence District High School. He served as an inspector in Otago and was senior inspector in Southland for two years before being appointed to a similar position in Hawke's Bay. On the retirement of the late Mr. C. W. Garrard, Mr. Robeitson was appointed to the position of senior inspector at Auckland. Mr. Robertson served in the Palestine campaign during the war. After the Armistice he was given the rank of major and was placed in charge of an education scheme for the New Zealand Brigade in Palestine and at the base camp at Ismaliii. Mr. Munro and Mr. Leslie have each had more than 40 years' service with the department. Mr. Munro commenced teaching in Auckland and was headmaster of the Remuera School when his appointment to the inspectorate was made in 1920. For the past 11 years he has been an inspector at Auckland. Mr. Leslie's teaching service was under the Hawke's Bay and Wellington Education Boards. He was headmaster of the Terrace School, Wellington, when he was appointed an inspector. He has served for nine years as an inspector at Auckland.
