MINISTER ATTACKED.
STUDENTS AT NANKING. DR. WANG NEARLY KILLED. WAR ON JAPAN DEMANDED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. SHANGHAI. Sept, 28. A most serious attack was made on the Foreign Minister, Dr. C. T. Wang, at Nanking by students, 5000 of whom specially journeyed to the capital to urge military resistance against Japan. Tho students stormed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrecked the windows and furniture, and violently assaulted Dr. Wang, who narrowly escaped being beaten to death. The Minister escaped in a motor-car amid a hail of sticks and stones. The mob paraded the streets shouting demands for a declaration of war against Japan, and for the dismissal of Dr. Wang. Wang Cheng-ting, who is known as Dr. C. T. Wang, was in early life a schoolmaster. He later studied in Japan and America for some years. In the first Chinese Republican Cabinet he was ViceMinister of Commerce and Industry and later Vice-President of the Senate. He represented China at, the Peace Conference at Versailles in 1919. Dr. Wang was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and acting-Premier in 1922 and again in 1926. When Marshal Chiang Kai-shek became President in 1928 Dr. Wang was again made Foreign Minister.
