WELLINGTON ZOO EAGLES.
AN ILL-FATED NEST. In the Wellington Zoo are n pair of golden-throated eagles, which have been in captivity for a number of years. This winter some, variety was lent their somowhafc dull life by the female taking it into her head to build a nest, a somewhat draughty affair composed of small branches of trees, a few ranpo leaves, arranged cross-wise on ;i sawn-off tree slump about, 12ft. high. In due course the reason for'this act became apparent, and the bird began to sit; but a great gale came ono night, and in its fury blew the nest over, and smashed the only 'egg. So the eagles sit aloft in dismal isolation once more.
