INFLUENZA ON WANE.
FEWER WORKERS ABSENT. POSITION AT MENTAL HOSPITAL. An improvement in school and office attendances during the past week indicates that the epidemic of mild influenza is on the wane in the Auckland district. " A spell of bright weather should clear up all traces of the epidemic," said Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, yesterday. "We are still advising people to take all precautions when attacked by influenza. There are still a few cases of the pneumonic type, but the position is not so severe as it was a fortnight ago. However, the prevalence of such cases shows the possibility of pneumonia following an attack of influenza, especially when precautions are not taken at once." Statements tbat the incidence of influenza had been particularly severe at the' Auckland Mental Hospital were denied by the superintendent, Dr. H. M. Buchanan, who said yesterday that the epidemic had been no more prevalent there than commonly experienced elsewhere.
