WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
WHANGAREI GROUP MEETING. A large gathering of members of women's institutes met in the Friendly Societies' Hall, Whangarei, for the quarterly group meeting, at. which representatives were present from Waipu, Titoki. Mauri u, Kamo, Hikurangi and Portland. Mrs. Dale, president of the Hikurangi Women's Institute, presided. Miss A. Stops, voluntary organiser of women's institutes for New Zealand, who addressed the meeting, said that during her organising -.our of the Dominion 150 institutes had been formed. She advocated the opening of rest rooms in towns like Whang.arei for the use of country members. Miss Stops had with her a very fine exhibition of handicrafts, which were a source of great interest to the members. At the conclusion of hrr address the speaker was accorded a warm vote of thanks, and was subsequently entertained at afternoon tea in the Coronation tea rooms. Albany.—An address on her work throughout the Dominion was given by the voluntary organiser, Miss A. Stops, at the last monthly meeting, which was held in the Memorial Library. Samples of beautiful needlework were displayed 'together with programmes of women's institutes from all over the world. Portland. —A branch of the Women's Institute was formed at Portland following an address on the aims and objects of the movement by Miss A. Stops, voluntary organiser of Women's Institutes for New Zealand, at a meeting in the Library Hall recently. The following officers were elected: —President, Mrs. T. H. Wilson; vice-president, Mrs. Leese; secretary, Mrs. Neal; treasurer and press correspondent, Miss .B. Kerr; committee, Mrs. Magee and Mrs. Morgan.
