SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION.

IMPROVEMENT IN STANDARD. PLAYERS AS CLUB COACHES. "•The past season was successful in every way and there was a great improvement in the standard of play," stated the report presented at the tnnual meeting of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association last evening. The president, Mr. ,T. Elliott, said the association had done everything to further the game, of cricket in Auckland. The finances received a setback at the start of last season owing to the heavy debit of the coach fund. However, the sum of £SOO had been paid off last season and tho incoming season would be started without liability. The receipts for the Season amounted to £ll2 and the balance-sheet showed a debit of 14b 2d. There was, however, money in hand, and the position was entirely satisfactory, conoluded Mr. Elliott. A suggestion that the sorvices of local members of the Ne\y Zealand cricket team should be availed of as club coaches was made by the secretary, Mr. E. Stallworthy. He said tho" knowledge gained abroad by the tourists would be valuable to younger players. Mr. Elliott snid the puggeslion was worth consideration, which was deferred until a later date. Different views were expressed on a noOo of motion from the Mount Roskill Club and a decision of the Auckland Crickot Association in respect to the allocation of points in local two-day matches. One delegate expressed approval of the action taken by tho Auckland Cricket Association, and the following ne# scale of points was eventually agreed to:—Outright win, C points; win on first, innings, 4; loss on first innings, 1; outright loss, 0; tie on either innings, 3; no result on first innings, 2. ■ The following now rule was adopted in all two-day matches:—A team batting first in club matches shall not be entitled to bat beyond the first day, provided play has extended for three and three-quarter hours on that day. It was decided to play the senior 13 tirade matches over a duration of two days. The period of play in the second grade was referred to the junior management committee for a report. Mr. A. Gedye advocated a reduction in tho affiliation fees of clubs and the payment of registration fees of players. The recommendation was referred to the Finance Committee. ' The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. W. 8. Pratt; vice-patrons, Messrs. E. H. Davis and B, W. Davis; pro fiident, Mrt J. Elliott; vice-presidents, same as last season and Mr. J. W. Proud; honorary secretary, Mr. B. Stallworthy; assistant secretary, Mr. J. Ball; honary treasurer, Mr. A. Riddell. BIRKDALE CLUB'S SEASON. The report of the Birkdala Cricket Club, adopted at the annual meeting, recorded a most successful Reason. Of 16 matches played, the club won IS and lost one and was bracketed with Power Board as equal champions in the third grade. The playing field wa» in good condition last year, but should show substantial improvement during tho ensuing season, owing to recent work carried out. The president, Mr. T. M. Shepherd, who presided, congratulated the club upon the progress mado and on the enthusiasm displayed for the game by members and supporters. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £G 12s. 9d. A very successful season was reviewed in the annual report of the Hamilton East Cricket Club, which was presented at the annual meeting. The senior A team won the grade championship with a season's total of 31 points out of a possible 32. The balance-sneet showed the club to he in a strong financial position. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. W. Holtby; president, Mr. R. Johnston; secretary. Mr. S. A. R. Badeley; club captain, Mr. Badeley; management committpe, Messsrs. H. Owens, R.
