ENCOURAGING ORATORY.
LORD BLEDISLOE'S PRIZE. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS* CONTEST. [BY TELEGRAIMr. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, has concluded arrangements for (he endowment of an oratory medal for competition among the New Zealand university colleges. The conditions arc that the contest shall be held triennially in each of the four centres in turn, under the auspices of the National Union of Students, and the subject shall be a great man or woman connected with New Zealand, Maori or pakeha, or an outstanding incident in New Zealand history. The prize shall be won on (he award of (he donor of the prize or of a majority of three of five outside judges, to be chosen by the debating committee of the National Union of Students. No winner is to bo eligible to compete again. The medal, which is of gold, bears on its obverse side a representation of a Maori meeting-house, surrounded by a Maori design. Actually, the scroll is copied from the ornamentation oil a rafter of the meeting-house at Whakarewarewa. On the reverse is His Excellency's coat of arms, surrounded by the words, "The Bledisloe Medal for Oratory."
