TREATING ABOLISHED.
DECISION OF PUBLICANS.
PROTEST BY WORKERS.
[BY TELEGRAMI. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HASTINGS, Saturday.
Pleading high costs and hard times, Hastings publicans last week unanimously decided to abolish treating by "the house."
The decision apparently created consternation among freezing workers, who immediately began to discuss, unofficially, a proposal to give all their custom, which is considerable, to one publican on condition that he retained the concession, and to "blacklist" all others. The proposal was discussed by a large meeting of freezing workers in Hastings last evening, but it was resolved that no action be taken.
