What would have been a very successful meeting at Geraldine was spoilt to a large extent by heavy, intermittent showers, which not only cramped investments £ut also brought about the withdrawal of several ai the best horses in the two concluding galloping events. Quinopai gave further evidence of his quality by winning the hurdle race even more convincingly than on the first day. He again overhauled Amorist before the straight was reached, and went on to win by four lengths from Paquito, who a3 easily beat Amorist. Paquito was kept back over the first half of the journey, and gave a little better display Amorist again stopped badly in the last furlong. The Australian-bred Grecian Prince opened his winning account by leading the field in the Wainui Hack Handicap practically throughout, but had to be. hard ridden over the last 50 yards to hold off Irish Chieftain who got away badly and was several lengths behind the winner with half the journey covered. The favourite, Jason's Quest, was unable jo act in the soft youig and finished in sixth place. Desert, S<;ng was responsible for an attractive effort in the President's Handicap. He took charge shortly after the start and, although serious v challenged by Mount Boa in the run home, bung oil gamely to win by half a lengtii Martian Chief threatened danger m the straight, but weakened into third place. The remainder were well strung out. Arrowmir justified the heavy support given him b\ winning the Stewards' Stakes throughout Sleipuer had him doing his best at one part in the run home, but could not carry on. Arrowmir had two lengths to spare at the oost. Rascal lost a forward position in the middle stages, but put in good work in the straight to gain third money On Top was one of the 'leaders entering the h n me run. but did not last long. Half the field carded was withdrawn from thd Glade-tone Handicap, owins to the track conditions. Gold Pit, a staunch favourite, never left tin issue in doubt. She opened up a break from barrier rise, and was well clear entering the 6traisht. Night Recital made a strong effort over the last furlong, and reduced tho gap, but. the favourite had too much in hand and won by a, good length. The remainder were outclassed. Topere. a stable-mate of the previous winner, was elected a good first choice in the Farewell Handicap, and another decisive victory was recorded He took charge as soon as the run home was commenced and was never asked to do his best to beat Semper Parat.us by two lengths. Inevitable again disappointed by leading into the straight and soon stopping. THE AUCKLAND MEETING. WEIGHTS AND ACCEPTANCES.
