FANCY DRESS DANCE.

The annual children's fancy-dress dance was held on Friday in the Otorohanga Town Hall, which was attractively decorated with coloured streamers. The supper room was also arranged with streamers of blended orange colours, forming a canopy over the tables, these latter being bright with Iceland poppies and daffodils. Candles in old-fashioned brass candlesticks, with the candles gilded to tone, added to the general scheme. About 240 children sat down, in relays, to supper.

The Town Hall was used for dancing, to the strains of a special volunteer orchestra of eight members, with Mrs. A. E. Cooke at the piano, and at intervals during the evening special dances were given. These were as follows:—"Prancing Horses" by Madeline Homer, Mary Neshausen, Nancy Sanders and Margaret Kay; Irish jig, Myrtle Tat ham and Jean Cameron; scarf dance,, Madelaine Homer; sailors' hornpipe, Nancy, Roy and Bill Sanders; national dance, Nancy Sanders; rose in the bud, Edith Quinlan and Dahlia Still; novelty quartette, Madelaine Homer, Margaret Kay, Mary Neshausen and Nancy Sanders; fairy dance by the " fairies." Winners of the prizes given for the hesitation waltz, according to ages, were Dawn Miller and J. Campbell, Olive Hall and Jean Cameron, Amy Hall and Roy Sanders, 'iherc was an attendance of 500.
