OPENING FUNCTIONS HELD. MANCERE CENTRAL CLUB. The opening of tli« Mange re Central Lawn Tennis Club's Feason i.viis held on Saturday afternoon. Although the weather was unfavourable, a large number of members and friends gathered at the club's courts. Mr. C. Heniile, president of the club, extended a welcome '• o the members and friends and wished the club every success for tlie ensuing year. Other speakers were Mr. It. B. llurdy. president, of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. Mr. Wil* liams, aUo of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, and Mr, S, W. House, president of the Maugero East Lawn Tennis Club After Mrs. Reniiie. wife of the president, had driven t lie first ball, a, progressive tournament was held, the winners being C. The Mauliii Lawn Tennis Club held its official opening of the season this afternoon. There was an attendance of about 'lO members and visitors. The ptesident. of the club, Mr. .1. F. Davids, declared 'lie courts open for play and Culfield hit. the first bs 11 over the net. Progressive tennis Was then played.
